You need to understand the geopolitical situation. basically for your whole life the American empire has controlled/dominated the entire world to varying degrees. Since the early 90's they've been in total control and spent the last few decades sewing up every country in the world with a couple hold out exceptions. The way our empire controls the world is through financial control and through military enforcement. The financial control has been slipping since 2008 and the military enforcement just got exposed as a paper tiger sicne 2022 by Russia. As such, the American empire is very much in fall right now.

All of the skirmishes around the world are related to this - the big central controlling power is weak so everyone they've held under their thumb can now make moves without fear of getting rekt. The Russians and Chinese have recognized this was coming for 15-20 years and have been preparing for it - they are old cultures who understand that when the big ruling power goes down things can get messy. Their task has been to create a new "world order" to keep things stable as the American empire goes down. They've done a great job of building that and now their main task is to try and mitigate the negative impact to everyone else of the American empire falling. Europe and most of the west are already fucked - they know that, but they're hoping to contain the damage. If you know this context, everything will make more sense for the rest of the decade. USA as 50 states is not going to survive.
