Died of sudden climate change

The Beechcraft Bonanza got the nickname "Doctor Killer" after a series of fatal accidents, with several of the pilots being doctors. This wasn't a Bonanza, but you could probably tag any light civil aircraft with that nickname.

The point is wealthy people often do stupid shit with their toys, and this is likely one of those cases. Part time pilots are the most dangerous pilots, other than students.

That was my first suspicion too.

But I recently saw that the senator topped off his Cherokee 140 (though it did have the 180hp upgrade making its performance similar to an Archer) then departed full fuel and full family (fully loaded) at night into rising terrain. The crash pictures appear to show that the airplane simply did not outclimb the rising terrain.

I really feel bad for this aviator but I suspect the combination of choices in setting off on the flight led to he and his family’s death.

If only they’d been vaccinated; they may have survived.(Sorry- I just had to throw in that dark humor.)
