The truth about Einstein is GR and SR are basically his only contributions to physics, while Lorentz, Planck, Poincare, et al. made numerous other contributions to mathematics and physics. Einstein is unimpressive in comparison, but somehow he's the poster child so... whatever. Einstein will be a footnote for his one contribution (which doesn't entirely play well with reality) while they others will live on indefinitely in the field of engineering for theirs.

The general theory of relativity is rock solid and has survived scrutiny. It's quantum mechanics that replaces beautiful mechanics with probabilities.

That said, Einstein stole the work. It was easy to steal special relativity, but I'm not sure how he stole general relativity.
