submitted by AugustineOfHippo2 to AskUpgoat 1.5 yearsNov 8, 2023 19:36:58 ago (+6/-0)     (AskUpgoat)

I see one on sale, and I don't really need it, but hey why not?
Anyone have any experience?

Did you walk into a gun store and find out that its selling for a few hundred more dollars than online and consider that a sale?

gunbroker.com has the prices, and you fuck around with a few of the cheaper sites till you get free/cheap shipping and no sales tax.

then you fill out the springfield promo and get a bunch of free mags and a range bag: https://www.springfield-armory.com/gear-up-2023/

protip: sell your rebate range bag and oem pistol case on ebay to make the deal even sweeter

I have an XDS Subcompact as my EDC. It's light, never failed to fire at the range. Never jammed. Nothing. I realized that if you're gonna be shooting 9mm, as long as it's double stacked, bigger ain't any better, cause at ranges that matter, the rounds are all going to have the same performance.

Army had me carrying an M9. That's pretty big, comparatively, for such a small round. Didn't shoot any better, and was far less reliable.

I own an XD and it has been my most reliable pistol by far. Well my h&k usp never has had an issue but that's to be expected.

Lots of survivalists swear by the XD.

I have an XD compact as my carry gun and I like it well enough. Not my favorite to shoot but that's probably just because it's a compact.

But I tried a bunch before I bought it and that's the one I settled on.

If you're looking for the sub-compact, the Glock 43X with the 15 round Shield Arms mags is the way to go.

Otherwise, for a compact, think glock 19, 19C, or 19X.

Even better if you spend the dough improve the trigger with an OC Custom trigger (look it up).

Given the promotion, why don't you recommend the Springfield Hellcat? I bought one for $489 after shipping and a rebate gave me 3 mags and a range bag. Then I sold the bags for $60.

Then I bought and installed a tyrant trigger $80, titanium striker assembly $140, and DPM Recoil Spring $82, and optic $79.

It has 15, 13, and 11 round mags. I like the 13s. And its pretty small ez to conceal.

Cause 13+1 ain't as good as 15+1, and Springfield ain't as good as Glock.

It has 15, 13, and 11 round mags

It's a competent modern, partly plastic, handgun.

Nice! Thanks. Always good to get reviews from actual owners

I rented one at the range one time.

It jammed constantly. I've heard from people who actually clean and take care of theirs that they can be kinda nice, but that was certainly not our experience. We even tried other magazines, but jam, jam, jam, misfire... while the equally dirty neglected 911 we also rented ran just fine.

I like the 1911 as well, but they are so heavy for only 8 rounds. It's difficult to gauge the quality based on a rental though, knowing how they get abused.

See if the frame is steel or an alloy of aluminium. I like the weight but some don't. However, if you have the lighter frame, you will tear up your feed ramp after 20k rounds.

That's interesting. I own lotsa guns and my XD has been a champ. Only gun I've had a malfunction with is my Ruger p-series pistol. Still love that gun though.

[ - ] lord_nougat 1 point 1.5 yearsNov 8, 2023 20:15:11 ago (+1/-0)

Yeah, I gotta give them another chance. Maybe just buy one and compare that to my 92fs.

you've never shot a gun in your life

the xd is a good gun, if you are looking for your the best gun for you, it should be in the running with sig, glock, beretta, smith and wesson and colt. see which fits you best.

[ - ] s23erdctfvyg -1 points 1.5 yearsNov 8, 2023 22:47:29 ago (+0/-1)

Fair, I like big calibers and high energy. Still it's always fun to ruffle the old guards feathers.
