They promised us back in the 80's that cable would be commercial free, and it was for awhile. Then the ads appeared between movies and slowly, slowly, you have what you have now.

* As an example, when Scarface came out on skinemax they played half and then a blue(?) screen came on for 30 min(?) that said "Intermission".

Not me mind you, I cut the cable in 2006 because $80 a month to watch commercials was way way out of hand.

When Kikeflix offered 8 dvd's at a time mail rental, I bought a dvd copier and spent 2 months sending and receiving 8 dvd's every other day. Had a nice collection of all my favorite movies and shows. Cut cable and have never looked back.

I think people ended up liking the cycle of ads. Maybe they don't now. Back in the day, when TV was live and you couldn't timeshift it, breaks were important.

2 minutes and 20 seconds is just enough time to race your sister to the bathroom and pee before a show comes back on and then the wailing and the screaming both during your pee and after the show starts back up made it worth it sometimes.

Bitch sold me out so many times...........I still plot vengeful attacks to this day. Traitors get The Wall!

Cable is mostly for boomers now. I turned on MTV for the first time in years and it's a dead channel. They play the same shitty couple of shows over and over on repeat. If you want the good shit they want you to subscribe to their streaming service,

[ - ] anon 4106194 4 points 1.4 yearsDec 15, 2023 07:47:55 ago (+4/-0)

good shit
It's still shit.

That's every cable channel. MTV discovered reality shows, and then it was kind of over. I mean if you wanted to watch something else.

I have a cable subscription that hardly ever gets used. The only reason I have it is because it is FREE﹡. I have a bundle package that includes both high speed internet and cable. Every year I look into canceling it and every year I find that the price of the bundle package is the same as either service by them selves. One year I actually saw that my bill would go UP if I canceled the cable.

﹡Nothing is free. The High Speed Internet customers are subsidizing the Cable service.

Nope. Did you even read my post? The 'Just internet' service is the same price as 'Internet + Cable" service. I look into this every 12 months

Fair point, they are not identical plans... but the fact remains that there is not a 'cheaper option' where I pay less and don't have cable. Even with a big family and several users there is very little practical difference between 300Mb, 500Mb, and 1Gb service.

T-Mobile has 5g home internet for 40$ a month with autopay. Thye have a 15 day trial to test it out. I'm considering it

[ - ] anon 2151408 0 points 1.4 yearsDec 14, 2023 23:34:21 ago (+0/-0)

T-Mobile 5g in my area is only 'OK'. It is sufficient for phone browsing for sure, but I have a lot of kids and it is not up to the task of supporting several simultaneous users streaming video, gaming, downloading etc. all at the same time.

I use Visble by Verizon. $25/month. Works just fine. I'm streaming right now

The subscriber was never the customer, they were always the product.

[ - ] anon 3413767 2 points 1.4 yearsDec 14, 2023 23:52:09 ago (+2/-0)

I don't buy cable. My ads come through the smart TV Internet.

why the fuck are you watching paid programming in the first place?

Same reason jews control most populations on earth.

[ - ] boekanier 1 point 1.4 yearsDec 15, 2023 01:06:36 ago (+1/-0)

it's only about the ads, the rest is screen filling

[ - ] anon 2720198 1 point 1.4 yearsDec 14, 2023 23:09:52 ago (+1/-0)

yep cable subscribers are helping to pay cnn's paychecks too

I think you answered your own question right there. It exists to "entertain" people while they are programmed to consoom.

[ - ] anon 5115483 0 points 1.4 yearsDec 15, 2023 10:04:12 ago (+0/-0)

It exists because there are still people paying for it. Any other question?

You can get 22TB HDD for $360USD now, just download stuff and start making an archive of DRM free movies, tv shows, games, who knows what will happen in the future, maybe they change the net and torrents no longer work and it just becomes a glorified digital brochure to sell stuff, no more communicating online, you might plan things against them and we can't have that.

[ - ] anon 4159840 0 points 1.4 yearsDec 14, 2023 23:32:37 ago (+0/-0)

My apartment has free basic cable and I hardly watch it. TV is 95% reruns and the commerical breaks are longer and more frequent plus just about every 3rd commercial is for the cable/internet company.
I don't see how anyone could pay $60+ a month to watch nothing but reruns and commercials.
It's disturbingly mind numbing and terribly boring.
