This is the opposite of the "The One" staring Jet-li vs Jet-li

Exactly.

In all of these timelines I would be Hitler in one, and his entourage in all the rest.

Maybe the other way around? One of you starts out with peak life (as do other new versions of you in other timelines), and each branching event splits it, attenuating more and more.

It's logarithmic or something, so the halving feels more like subtracting a flat amount, sort of like a "life dB". A uniform 2-way split is close enough to -3, and moreover a uniform 10-way split is exactly -10.

Most branches are very non-uniform, i.e. an easy daily decision not to minecraft yourself is weighted almost entirely towards the timeline where you didn't do that. Therefore, maybe people who are considering that end up aging more quickly...

interesting thought you have...
but I personally think that entropy law works against existence of parallel timelines and universes, since well, you have to look them all as one system after all, and with multiple timelines stuff would be somehow going from less to more order. but I'm no physicist, so...

So the reverse of The One? I'd still hunt them down.

As realistic and repetitive my dreams are I feel it is a distinct possibility.

Or what if that's just mystical bullshit, and aging is a biological process that will be found reversible in the next 50 years.

There's no cure for entropy.

[ - ] chrimony 2 points 1.4 yearsJan 2, 2024 15:34:59 ago (+2/-0)

In the infinite timeline of the universe, no. But you heal from wounds every second you are alive.

[ - ] PeckerwoodPerry 1 point 1.4 yearsJan 2, 2024 15:46:02 ago (+1/-0)

Yeah, time heals all wounds. Time also wounds all heels. Even if it was possible, which it's not, immortality wouldn't be a blessing. It'd be a curse. Annihilation is really the best an individual could hope for. Imagine being alive to witness the heat death of the universe, that's not something I would wish on anyone I care about.

[ - ] chrimony 0 points 1.4 yearsJan 2, 2024 16:09:50 ago (+0/-0)

Being alive for 100 years is already on the scale of "impossible". I'm not talking about immortality or being alive until the head death of the universe. But 1,000 years seems quite achievable if aging is reversed.

If you want annihilation, nothing is stopping you from achieving it.

[ - ] PeckerwoodPerry 0 points 1.4 yearsJan 2, 2024 16:58:01 ago (+0/-0)

Want has nothing to do with facing the inevitable. I will achieve it. That's literally what I'm saying.

The amount of damage I've done in the first 25 years will make those following 975 a real pain in the ass.

After awhile just put my head in a jar and call it good.

There will still be an upper maximum limit. Even with future tech it is postulated that age not exceed 140yrs.

If the timelines can start and stop at different points, not all on "your birthday", then I can believe it.

I will have dreams of rather uneventful activities...visual or two with some sort of distinct sound. Months will go by then all of a sudden the dream I had played out in reality. They have happened with enough frequency I consider them "checkpoints" like racing video games. As long as I keep getting to those checkpoints, things are alright. How to get to the next checkpoint is the question...keep on keeping on.

A hundred timelines, and OP is gay in all of them.

I think you’re half right. There were so many times in my life where I made the wrong choice, and thought to myself, well, I’m dead. But I didn’t dead. Still can't wrap my head around it. One time when I was 6 years old I crawled into a box to hide., it was a USMC foot locker given to me by a neighbor who was a marine. When the latch slipped over the the hook, I knew I had fucked up big time. I was stuck, the box would not open. So I did the only thing natural to a six year old. I cried! A lot. Nobody knew I was in that box, the air was getting stale. I was stuck. Here is where the timeline diverged, a voice in my head said, stop crying you pansy, take off your belt and jam it in the crack, you might be able to push off the latch. That’s what I did. I still think back to that moment when 6 year old me was stuck in a wooden box. Jesus Christ!

Edit to add: whatever that was served me well, so many times in my life a voice in my head directed me on to the right path. I failed to crash airplanes and lived to see another day. All due to that voice in my head. I think it was my guardian angel, I can’t think of any other explanation.

Fermi paradox.

[ - ] bobdole9 0 points 1.4 yearsJan 2, 2024 20:02:08 ago (+0/-0)

Play into the 100 timeliness idea...they don't all start necessarily at the same time. Could have been older you thinking "stupid kid, unstuck yourself".

[ - ] Portmanure 0 points 1.4 yearsJan 2, 2024 20:11:55 ago (+0/-0)

I’m still trying to wrap my head around this, but you are probably right.
