Your MIL knows what she's doing. You're trying to fight her with reason, which won't work. You need to take some certain action.

- She and your wife might be setting you up for your wife to divorce you. See a lawyer immediately.

- You need to end all financial transaction and communication with her except for rent. If you pay for anything that isn't a fixture, it's yours. But don't pay for anything that's considered repair or improvement. That's her responsibility.

- Make plans to move somewhere else. Your affairs and hers to too mingled, and your business is none of her business.

In short, you're trying to be the bigger man here, but that's the wrong tactic. You need to be stronger than your MIL and show that you're more more ruthless and less passive-aggressive and manipulative than she is. But above all, see a lawyer, immediately.
