Aside from the drugs part, I'm not sure what makes this a dark age.

The Roman aqueducts were open air channels that just let water flow, and had to always keep going lower and lower to get the water to flow.

Current systems of closed piping allow the reservoir water pressure to be constant throughout the pipe, no matter what bends and turns and curves the pipes go through.

Is the "under the valley" part talking about how stupid current civilization is because people don't think the water will flow uphill?
