Every parent that's ever raised a teenager knows that his kid is going to, one day, do something that the kid shouldn't, but allows that kid to make the mistake before the parent punishes the child for that mistake.

This isn't a very hard concept to understand and in no way suggests that the parent doesn't love the child.

That is not low IQ parenting. You have to trust your kids with their decisions, even when you know that they'll not always do what's best. Certainly, there are limits, but this is standard and normal parenting.
