Sucks that windoze strong-arms corporations into using their crap products! If you go to work for a company, you more likely than not have to use Microcrap products! Isn't that called "Market Manipulation" and "Coercion" when the small business owner tries to do that?

The fact is Windows keeps getting worse with every iteration. Ok, there`s certain improvements for newer hardware, but they come along with spying, AI crap, bloatware, ads and other intrusive practices. Yes, people will say Win11 is better if Win13 adds subscription fees.

XP was mine. 7 seems good in hindsight, but only was accepted at the time because they forced everyone off of XP and Vista was trash.

Vista was much better a couple of years into it's release. Despite the insane system requirements for it's time and it's many problems initially, it went on to become one of my favorite versions of windows. I preferred it over 7.

7 eased up on the requirements a fair bit, IIRC. Had an old laptop that came with XP when it was new, the little "upgrade advisor" flat out said Vista wouldn't work. Period.

Then 7 comes along, installs just fine, and I used it for years on that laptop.

NT 4.0 was my go to for years until XP came along for work. At home it was Windows 3.11 until Windows 98SE came out...and then to XP. I never used 95 at work or at home.

It is functional, but their 'killshot' to 7 was around driver signing. Basically, there is a Win7 update that requires all drivers to be signed (if you are clever, you will prevent its installation during the 'rollups'), and then all of the keys are extremely out of date, so it will lock everything out by default.

Also, it requires a bit of knowledge of what you are doing, as you need to force it to run drivers designed for newer windows versions, which it naturally doesn't like.

It was worth it to me to figure it out. I hated 8 and 10, and forgot 11 even existed. Basically went right from 7 to linux.

My dad still uses a machine that runs Windows 7, and I have a rather dated laptop that also runs Windows 7 (the processor is a crappy Celeron).

Turn off the TPM chip. Windows 11 won't allow the upgrade. You shouldn't be using TPM anyway. M$ and Intel are behind it and they can download what's in it whenever they want.

Onlyoffice is really the one we should be recommending to windows people. It's a 1:1 office clone. Everything 95% of users use doesn't just work similarly. It works identically.

Unless you are some freak who uses document templates with databases to do mass mailings you are never going to know you aren't in office.

I would agree with that, I've actually had both installed simultaneously in Linux and switched between them. Pity that Open Office isn't more active and more regularly updated.

Windows 10 was what convinced me to finally switch to Linux. Windows 11 made me thankful for doing so.
