Wow I just installed Win2000. You would not believe this.

When you make your first search on google with internet explorer you get this warning before it lets you submit -

"When you send information to the internet, it might be possible for others to see that information. Do you want to continue?"

Can you even BELIEVE how different even windows was back then?

After Windows Vista failed, Microsoft when full-throttle to harvest, store, and resell your personal information.

Windows XP was the last OS that I even remotely trusted.

A lot of people only shifted from xp to 7 to play games that were cockblocked from xp.

The only reason I use windows. But I plan on quitting most gaming soon, so Win10 is the last one for me. Windows has become the OS for dumb wetbacks.

I dual boot Windows 11 and Linux Mint. Best of both worlds.

It begins this way and one day you don't bother with the Windows any longer. Now I have only Arch Linux and don't need anything else.

Proton show promise but it isn't going to replace Windows any time soon. Firm believer Linux can replace Windows in all facets, except gaming. (currently)

I just posted about this awhile ago. Manufacturing obsolescence. People are getting so dumb they don't even five a shit that these products are worse than they were just a few years ago. Stock pile things that are solid, or doesn't even matter what they are, everything is being reinvented to be worse. Stockpile parts, electronics hell even old ghost busters blue rays. They'll destroy it all over time and get rid of everything that worked the way it should have.

Try xp and see how fast it actually runs without all the bloatware

I've actually tried this on my old system recently.

It's fast, and stable after all the updates completed, but I didn't find a browser that allowed me to view all items on recent websites. Even Youtube, and Twitter had multiple issues loading-running certain content.

Why can't you run a modern browser? XP and modern windows both run win32 executables.

Libraries, great for speed, terrible for dependency.

Got it.

I installed Brave Browser on it, but it didn't seem to have full functionality.

[ - ] carnold03 0 points 10 monthsJun 12, 2024 06:51:12 ago (+0/-0)

Are their groups that support these older version OS when Microsoft discontinues doing so?

I think modern browsers still give the same warning when you submit a form over an unencrypted (http) link. That's likely all you're seeing.

I'm sure they are saving all your search history in the who gives a flying fuck bucket.

I have a copy of W2k some where around here and an unused HD, I may try that myself for nostalgia. Also a copy of Windows XP too! Don't know if those survived the move or not, I ended up pitching a bunch or unused relics.
