9mm is better all around, but 380 is good for when you're in a rush or don't feel like fussing around with a holster. A little 380 in the pocket is better than not carrying at all.
The video explicitly stated that a .380 is exactly as effective as a .45 or a 9mm... It's not better than nothing, it's as good as anything other common round.
You've got to be fucking kidding. You're really going to go on this one guy's outlying opinion against decades of hard data?
The top defensive rounds of 380 at best impart a smidge over a third of the energy of comparable 9mm rounds. 380 is imfamous for both not having sufficieny energy for proper hollowpoint expansion (especially against winter clothing), and also being able meet penetration standards.
No self-loading centerfire handgun round is actually ideal, but to place 380 in the same tier as demonstrably superior handgun cartidges is the dumbest thing I've heard in a while.
No, I don't have to be kidding. The guy's name is Greg Ellifritz and he's apparently published a lot of data on the topic. What's your name and what data do you have? If you disagree with his conclusions, take it up with him.
Here's an article written by Greg that contradicts that and calls 380 what I do: The bare minimum for self defense. He talks about capacity and iffy reliability of the pistols, though that's not my problem with 380 (modern 380 handguns are plenty reliable).
You can watch any number of tests or read any kind of article on test results of the 380 and see the same things I said about it: Low energy, poor expansion, poor penetration.
If you want exact numbers on energy, there are plenty of ballistics charts out there showing how much energy these calibers in different loadouts can impart. Try to find me a 380 self defense round that can reach 200ft/lbs of energy. You'll be hard pressed; the very best loadings from the longest barrels top out around 180 at 25yds. The best 9mm loadings can in some cases reach over 400, but coupled with higher velocities and heavier bullets, they penetrate, expand, and impart more of that energy effectively.
I still carry 380s, usually just when in a rush or need a very small profile. Better than nothing. 9mm is the most convenient and I carry them most, but I feel best when carrying a .40 or .357SIG.
There are no magic bullets. Bullets wound by cutting, tearing and crushing tissues along their path.
The single greatest determining factor in achieving good stops is, and always has been, shot placement.
Nothing fancy. Just multiple, fast hits in the upper thoracic, regardless of caliber are what's going to shut them down the fastest.
Example: During the 1986 Miami FBI shootout, of the eight agents at the scene, two had Remington 870 shotguns in their vehicles (McNeill and Mireles), three were armed with Smith & Wesson Model 459 9 mm semi-automatic pistols (Dove, Grogan, and Risner), and the rest (six) were armed with Smith & Wesson revolvers; two had .357 Magnums and five had .38 Specials. Two of the agents had backup .38 Special revolvers (Hanlon and Risner); both would use them at some point during the fight.
Michael Lee Platt absorbed a total of 12 hits.
William Russell Matix took a hit from a Smith & Wesson Model 3000 12-gauge pump shotgun, with one round of #6 shot and six pistol bullets.
Postmortem toxicology showed no stimulants in either man's system.
A good final filter would be how these apply to different shooters. Male, female, tall, short, heavy, light, etc. That's a major influence on your performance that isn't changing. Also how experience plays a role, because that isn't changing quickly.
I've stated many times here that the 9mm is just as effective as the .40 or.45 but with a lot less bulk and after mess...if I had to choose 2 sidearms in a hurry I would grab my S&W M686 .357mag (7rnd cyl) and my 9mm Ruger 1911...as for choice of long guns, given that striking from a distance is very important I don't think that I would grab an AR, .223 or .300 Blackout, if only 2 choices, I would go with my .270WSM & 22-250, having my .50cal Steyer for front end assaults at 2,000 - 3,000 yards would be nice but the weapon, optics, spare mags, additional barrel and 500rnds of 800grn composite projectiles with a hot charge is over 400lbs, just the weapon, scope and 5rnd mag is 45lbs...in a hunkered down location it's great but on the move without mechanized means or pack animal mobility it's inconceivable...but I would hate to not take an SKS also as they are reliably tough...and remember this....WATER IS 10LBS PER GALLON
My mindset was about availability as to much else. For instance you and I know that 9mm, 22lr, 12 Guage, 5.56x45, 7.62x51, and 38 spc are going to be the easiest to find.
Basic handloading tools and molds should be in your bug out bag. As well as a small booklet with loading information for common ammunition and your ammunition. Even if you can't find your ammunition, you can break down other ammunition to make ammunition for your firearm.
With everything I just listed above, the tools shouldn't way more than 10 pounds maximum.
Yeah that just ain't me. That bushcraft shit I can't get into anymore with any enthusiasm. Not saying others shouldn't, but with various factors involved and the bug out prepping items that are available now.
By the way, have you attempted to legally aquire a suppressor recently? I say it like that because of the paranoia with this place.
Took 24hrs to get my paperwork back for 3 that I purchased at the same fucking time! 22lr, 9mm, and 5.56
Just no fucks given and rubber stamped. Something weird is goings on, and I have done my own with the paperwork and took almost a year. The legal route is better just because it won't fuck up, and I can get it serviced without doing another mountain of paperwork.
By the way, have you attempted to legally aquire a suppressor recently? I say it like that because of the paranoia with this place.
Nope. None of my firearms can even use most suppressers for a variety of reasons, and I would still need ear protection for most of them even with a suppresser.
I think you may have just gotten lucky as I know a guy that got a SBR a little while ago, and it took six months for all the paper work to go through.
The legal route is better just because it won't fuck up
Your name is in a database with your suppressers. Should a new law be bulshitted into existence that makes them completely "illegal" you'll have to give them up or risk being raided until the law is removed if it ever is. There are pros and cons either way. I won't say which is better as the choice to waive your 2nd and 4th amendment rights for the "easy and safe" way should have never been a choice we were forced to make to begin with.
No I wasn't lucky. This is being reported by many people and noticed by sellers. Dealer told me that is quite common now.
As for the intrusion of rights, I use a trust that they would need a court order to open. If you really think about it, more guns than people in USA borders, 2 trillion rounds of ammo in public hands and everything that goes with it.
They don't have the resources to pursue any of us. If you didn't notice cops are pussies
Lol, that is paranoia, and I am a fucking nobody. Just an average citizen of these united states.
The effort it would take to single me out, attempt to make a case and then prosecute would serve no purpose because I don't belong to a single questionable group.
Wife and I attended PTA meetings, keep our car tags up to date and have all our bills on auto pay.
Besides I don't fight with cops, but I also will not assist them with an investigation or if bleeding out because some nigger shot them on the side of the road, wouldn't even call 911 for them honestly.
I reload all of my own ammo, from .38 to .50cal and everything in between, at minimum I have 2,000rnds of .50 and 5,000rnds of 9mm,.40.45 and probably 10,000rnds of .357mag. ....probably 2,000rnds of .44mag but that gun is not a versatile choice....fuck I've got 5,000rnds of . .223/300blackout and a half dozen sealed "spam cans" (750rnds per can) of 7.62x39...but when shit goes down and ammo is scarce scavenged ammo from the "unlucky opposition" is more likely going to be in the 9mm, 223 or 7.62x39/51 cals...the way I see it is that when the big boogaloo happens I'm avoiding the city and concentrated areas which is where the AR, SKS or Mseries weapons are best, I'm in a rural area with a natural escarpment in back and side of me and a long clay burm in front of me and I have an excavator and rubber tire Case backhoe, and I have DJI drones with 12 mile radius recon, properly situated I can rip off rnds at anything 1,000yrds away...I can cut clover leafs "🍀" with my .270 at that distance and with my 22-250 I can take the eye out of a rattlesnake at 700yrds in mild wind(10knots), 4-5hundred yards in any condition...1-2hundred yards is playtime with that rifle (Savage BTCSS, 6x34x50 Bushnel Elite optics, deadly accurate)...now if I could just get my hands on a T90 it would make things more comfortable.
I just stockpile various calibers when they are on sale at PSA. I drive through NC often and will pick up 20 to 30 boxes of that MHP 9mm for 6.99 a box.
Once a month I order 1000 rounds of 9mm from freedommunitions as well, and 17hmr in the 200 packs at Walmart as they got it the cheapest.
Really digging rimfire myself lately, if nothing else for the cost to shoot. Added bonuses are weight and accuracy. I won't be sniping fools at more than 100m myself.
At 50y you can be surgical with a ruger percision 22lr and with it suppressed. No one will know where you were, just dead fools with tiny holes where they used to have eyeballs.
Forgot to add, I just got a mini 4 pro drone, dude this shit now is leaps and bounds better than the mini 1.
No joke I got that bitch 2 miles away in a sustained 15mph wind and gusts to 25mph with it 100m up traveling 15mph there and 35mph back and still had 20% battery left.
Kit came with 3 of those batteries. It doesn't need a wifi connection anymore either to work since that controller has a screen.
Does 3x digital zoom, portrait and landscape modes as well.
Best part is that you cannot hear it more than 50ft and you sure as fuck won't see it with how small it is.
