Where do I find the apps I install? Devaun Linux.

submitted by Monica to Linux 9 monthsJul 6, 2024 17:53:51 ago (+3/-0)     (Linux)

I finished installing Devaun and wanted to install brave browser. That took a while to figure out then it finally looked like it installed. Now I wondering where the is it? How do I launch it. The install instructions said to use the app launcher.

I found 'app finder' and brave browser was not in the list. I have no idea where this installed to.

Edit:
Can't change the title: *Devuan

I haven't used Devuan yet. I think @DitchPig is using it.

I'm not sure if the install directories are the same, but I can run

/usr/bin/brave-browser-stable

from terminal and it will run it.

Thanks. I'll look for it there. usr/bin

I looked in that directory usr/bin and it's not there. The command error says "no such file or directory". I don't know. maybe it didn't install at all.

It might just be in /bin/

I'm installing a VM of it to see what I can learn about it right now.

I can't even get it to update. it fails to resolve deb.devuan.org. I'm not too happy with this. Same shit that always happens to me with linux. Errors every time I try to sudo apt update.

Now every forum I go to says to edit a file. So I click on the file to edit it. I edit it and hit SAVE and the fucking thing says I can't save it. WTF this shit sucks.

Are you posting from it right now?
Did you use the desktop.iso or the netinstall.iso?

I'm wondering if it's a network issue or something else.

I'm posting from another computer but I can access the internet from the linux box. I looked up the error and others had the same thing. Every forum says to edit a file but when I edit it the damn file won't save. It's like linux is built to piss people off. I shouldn't have to search the internet on saving a file. This is stupid.

You need to edit the file with 'sudo' (superuser do) permissions in order to save the file, most likely.

trying this;
sudo cat > /etc/apt/sources.list
PERMISSION DENIED

And I got that from an online tutorial that teaches me how to save a fucking text file on linux. lol

Yeah, I just got it installed and running. It's telling me I am not in the sudoers file. Gonna figure that out real quick. I think that's the issue.

Thanks for helping. This is so retarded.

There are specific forums for each distribution of Linux out there.

Search, and sift around for one that offers a compilation list of apps for that specific flavor. If you have problems then search for specific device drivers as well. It might help you find a forum with everything you need in one stop.

Example - Linux Mint forum - https://community.linuxmint.com/

it depends on the desktop environment

on kde I press the app launcher and there's groups of stuff, and brave would be under internet, or I would just type brave and it would pop up in search. Or I could press windows+space and launch the launcher thing.
