"Hello fellow Linux users". Anyone have any recomendations of apps to use?

submitted by Monica to Linux 9 monthsJul 8, 2024 17:56:39 ago (+6/-0)     (Linux)

One thing I'm looking to do is backup old dvd files and I need a DVD-RW app to read/write using my DVD-RW burner. I also would like to rip some old audio CDs I have.

I also would like to know of a secure browser to use.

Any recommendations to help get me started ... anything really.

edit: I just installed i2p and it's working. I'm kind of excited to see what it's like.
edit 2: I would like a good IRC app.

Handbrake is pretty decent for DVDs.
It kind of depends on what you're trying to do.

I just need to read and write to my burner. I have old backups that I'd like to backup on another machine (instead of only keeping the DVD's because DVD's can easily die). I also have some music I'd like to rip as mp3.

It has been so long since I ripped mp3s on linux, I forget what I used. Everything was better and easier back then it seems ; all the good projects have died and been rendered all broken by retarded 'updates' and sjws and shit but I digress. Heck, I made my own mp3 player [which was just a shellscript front end for mpg123], but it did what I wanted: play a random song from my storage volume that was just full of mp3s. And one ctrl+c would just skip to the next song. I was pretty chuffed with that thing.

But yeah, handbrake is great for ripping / encoding stuff off of DVDs. The trick can be picking the right track, sometimes.

Nice! I like that you coded your own frontend.

I use kdenlive for video editing. Audacity for editing audio samples.

[ - ] Niggly_Puff 3 points 9 monthsJul 8, 2024 20:07:31 ago (+3/-0)

Brave is shit spyware. Go with Librewolf.

[ - ] CasualObserver 0 points 9 monthsJul 8, 2024 22:38:26 ago (+0/-0)

Care to elaborate? Brave is my go-to and I haven't heard of any shenanigans.

When I tried the browser they installed a VPN on my machine. When I uninstalled the browser they left their bullshit vpn on my machine. I want nothing to do with their crypto either. There are better options.

K3B if using KDE, Brasero for Gnome (to save dependency spam)

You should try Linux. Try any flavor then fuck around and find out.

[ - ] Monica [op] 3 points 9 monthsJul 8, 2024 18:46:58 ago (+3/-0)

I'm on Linux now. :) I'm trying out Devuan.

[ - ] bosunmoon 0 points 9 monthsJul 9, 2024 16:10:06 ago (+0/-0)

Solid choice. I'm on manjaro but I'm thinking of switching back to devuan. Feel free to hit me up if you need help with anything.

sudo rm -rf /
It will take care of pretty much everything.
Good luck!

This installed the hebrew bible on my desktop.

get nicotine++ and just download the cds you want in flac

the browser you should be using is librewolf. run ublock in whitelist mode or, better yet, install umatrix, and install localcdn and cookie autodelete and localcdn and smart referrer.

dont listen to any retard who tells you to use brave. if someone tells you to use brave they're a retard and you shouldn't listen to anything they say.

hexchat is a good irc app

Buy portmaster and configure librewolf to run through SPN. You can use firefox or mercury or floorp for regular browsing like shopping or whatever. And have librewolf be your conspiracy website browser. https://safing.io/spn/

savage.

[ - ] CasualObserver 0 points 9 monthsJul 8, 2024 22:40:22 ago (+0/-0)

What happened with brave?

[ - ] Kozel 1 point 9 monthsJul 8, 2024 23:08:29 ago (+1/-0)

its fucking chrome with a skin. its made by google (Chromium is, on which Brave is built). Chromium is designed from the ground up to fingerprint users for advertisers. it has built in telemetry. it uses safebrowsing which which sends every URL you visit to Google. it makes numerous other connections to google and cloudflare. its a grifter browser made for boomers that are too retarded to install ublock origin on google chrome.

[ - ] CasualObserver 1 point 9 monthsJul 9, 2024 06:55:09 ago (+1/-0)

I haven't touch Firefox based browser since their hate speech censorship faggotry.

[ - ] Kozel 0 points 9 monthsJul 9, 2024 16:05:59 ago (+0/-0)

so you used a Goolag browser which practices the same exact faggotry 🤣🤣

[ - ] CasualObserver 0 points 9 monthsJul 9, 2024 18:17:22 ago (+0/-0)

It's fun to be edgy and lol at retards but I'm not seeing much to back up your claims.

[ - ] Kozel 0 points 9 monthsJul 9, 2024 18:34:50 ago (+0/-0)

so you don't use a goolag browser?

[ - ] CasualObserver 0 points 9 monthsJul 9, 2024 06:58:36 ago (+0/-0)

it uses safebrowsing which which sends every URL you visit to Google.

Not according to them: https://support.brave.com/hc/en-us/articles/15222663599629-Safe-Browsing-in-Brave

[ - ] Kozel 0 points 9 monthsJul 9, 2024 16:07:34 ago (+0/-0)

according to them

according to third party it does

[ - ] CasualObserver 0 points 9 monthsJul 9, 2024 18:15:49 ago (+0/-0)

Your link doesn't say that. According to brave (and as far as your third party says) they proxy those request.
All those things can and should be disabled anyway.

Thanks! I'll try this out!!
