Like many inexperienced technicians, they can't discern from the temperature reading on the screen versus the ACTUAL temperature. Then, there's the "average temperature" bullshit which has no scientific validity.

Would love to know what the margin of error is when determining the average global temperature of the earth on any given day, week, month or year, of any year from the "pre-industrial era".
