Logitech CEO Hanneke Faber recently discussed the possibility of one day selling a mouse that customers can use "forever." The executive said such a mouse isn't "necessarily super far away" and will rely on software updates, likely delivered through a subscription model.
Braindead as an idea, obviously the subscription is all they want.
Right now, many programmers buy mouse and keyboard by the dozen and wear them out because it's cheaper and more convenient than fucking around with cleaning and repairing.
They also hate fucking around with needing software when the USB protocol already specifies standard interfaces for those input devices.
DEI woman CEO figures that subscriptions are the future. Has no real experience with mice, never seen them advance from the shit in the 80s to the nice stuff we have now.
But she has jump from fancy exec job to exec job. And now she is CEO of something she had no experience building.
Mice are cheap as fuck. Less than the cost of a fast food meal. If they don't offer anything more than a basic mouse who gives a fuck?
except if you want them to know your mouse movements as well as your keystrokes. Let's not forget taking away your ability to use a mouse at all if you aren't a pedophile.
it is because they eliminated all the engineers competent enough to calculate and design products with precise lifetimes, i.e. artificial obsolescence.

That's about par for the course.

they could do so by offering a free trial
once the trial expires you can either enter a credit card or allow your system resources to be used for cryptomining

How about, "No." Does "No" work for you? Because "No" works for me.
