"Go Touch Grass"

Sometime around mid June, I hit a wall (figuratively Speaking), where every day became indistinguishable from every other day, things that previously brought me joy, like Upgoat/VOAT, no longer did it for me anymore. It was like living out the movie "Groundhog Day", except without getting to bang young Andi MacDowell.

One of the last posts I read at the end of June was from @TheOriginal1Icemonkey, where he told someone to go "Touch Grass". I got a laugh out of it, but it also gave me the answer I thought I was looking for. I decided that I just needed to literally "Touch Grass". So I spent as little time as possible on my technology, and as much time as I could working around the house, spending time outdoors, and reconnecting with the local driving range, sadly my "hook" & "slice" are alive & well. The odd thing is, that I started missing Upgoat/VOAT, but after I logged back on, I realized nothing changed, IT IS like Groundhog Day here! It's a never ending cycle of posters posting the same shit! I don't want to call any specific user out, but FUCK ALL! Can we give it a rest with "ChristCuck" this, and "ChristCuck" that? FFS!

This isn't meant to be a rant by any means, but how sad it is to have taken time away, only to realize that the problem is that we've turned into an old folks home! We are an Old Folks home full of borderline Alzheimer patients. Forgetting that we posted the same shit over and over and over again! I'm interested in how many of you see this and agree!

It's good to be back, but to paraphrase the "Joker" from Batman, "This forum needs an enema!" Seriously!

Anyway, TL;DR I took some time away to clear my head, and when I got back nothing changed...

Thanks, Gowie! @TheOriginal1Icemonkey is sort of like a brother to me, His path in life wasn't easy, and neither was mine! While our paths were not the same, out circumstances were somewhat similar.

I've always sort of appreciated you. In the same way I consider Icemonkey a brother, I rather consider you a kid sister. You've always been good to me on VOAT.

I did see his post when I got back, as I skimmed over the month I was away. While I did sort of crap on the community a bit (in a constructive way) in my post above, it is good to see that we do look after our own here. Nothing illustrates this better than the concern a lot of us had when @diggernicks fell off the flat-earth... (LOL) I appreciate everyone here, sometimes we just need to follow the wisdom to wherever it leads. "Touch Grass" resonated with me, so I took IceMonkeys advice. It was good to recharge the batteries.

Well what has changed is the world has been picking up on what we've been pointing out here. Since we were kind of ahead of the game and knew a lot of this well of course it hasn't changed. But what has changed is the world is picking up on it people like Candace Owens or obviously reading it here or somebody who's on her staff is and so are many other people. Hey system, Thanks for the reply back, I really appreciate it. I have to imagine that it's not easy being the Captain of this ship of mostly high functioning misfits, (me included). It really can't be said enough, but Thank You for all do here! You know that this little project of yours has had a real impact on us as individuals, and as a group. We get to connect with like-minded people that we vibe with, that share similar Backgrounds, Interests, Likes, Experiences, etc..., and it's pretty cool that we don't have to cower under the weight of the PC police. It's sort of refreshing to have a place where we can tell someone to "Fuck Off", and a couple posts later, start talking about something else with them. I would take 1 Upgoat/VOAT over 10,000 Facebooks, X, or Reddits any day!

Things going well,, thank you. The work on the house is done and we’re getting re-situated. Work is balls out and numbers are good. Having a bit of a staff shuffle in that some of the new folks are moving on, and were interviewing again. They were short term part time anyway, as students. This is just what we do. Feel like we’re constantly training new people. We’re getting some good ones though because we’re getting better at picking em.

I don’t think I have anything by the balls though as I’m always falling short somewhere. My truck is dirty and I need to get the spiderwebs out of the eves.

I came back to voat after a hiatus and I'm having fun again.

I've done so many projects so far this year. I've done more than twice the amount of tasks I normally do, all because the Mrs wants a third baby!

I might have to build us an entire new home because I'll be damned if my fireplace isn't in the center of the house!

The architect and engineer within my brain are fighting and it's making a mess of the place!

It's good you did some real world work, we all need it to appreciate the downtime.

I've actually read it. I found it rather hard to read. I'm currently reading My Imitation of Christ. If you haven't read it, it's worth the read. It's best to read it in short bursts, where you can reflect on what you've read a bit before moving on. This particular book is full of great wisdom, and should be viewed as a marathon, not a sprint in terms of reading it and consuming the content.

The only answer I can muster is that this place isn't real community; it's pretend, and I don't mean this to deride it. The impossibility for it to be real community has nothing to do with anything particular about Voat.

This is a place for people to vent, to shout into a semi-void where there are about 50-100 voices who will echo back and reaffirm the shared worldview. It can be a useful place to stay up on current events, or to at least get perspectives on the fuckery taking place in media and politics from like-minded people. There will be a few people who resonate with you enough that they matter.

That's about it. In the years I've been here, there have been plenty of people who have asked about whether this place can be something more than it is, and while I understand the desire is motivated by something real, there is a type of reality that this place just can't be.

At the same time, it might be possible to gather what the value of this place is by the way we react either when (a) we spend time away or (b) we consider losing it (ala 2020). When I think about missing this place, it seems like missing a loyal dog after it has passed away. Our dogs are our friends because circumstances mean they don't know how not to be your friend, and more importantly, they reciprocate back what you give to them. Voat is loyal and it reciprocates. It's waiting on the porch for you when you get home from work. It shits on the floor in the same place every time.

Your old dog and Voat don't surprise you, and that's part of what makes them valuable.

Having a career, business, and returning to school has given me a great appreciation for down-time. It’s yin and yang; as if we cannot have fun without work.

The days blurred together when life was little more than a career I didn’t care for. Now, the future seems unlimited and exciting. I once felt old and now feel young. Plus all the health stuff.
