Distance to the south pole from any latitude in the southern hemisphere.

If you multiply the radius of the earth times pie then divide by 180 then multiply that by that latitude, you'll get the distance to the south pole in KM's.

You can find your distance to the equator from any latitude by multiplying the radius of the earth by pie then dividing by 180 and multiplying that by 90 minus your latitude.

These distances can be confirmed by the GPS system that you said was accurate.
