Have not seen any dandelion flowers in my yard this year....ive got some random plants scattered around, but now that you mention it, I don't remember seeing any flowers yet.

There are still no bugs on my windshield anymore when I drive down the highway either, even out in the country.

My yard is infested with these fuckers. I thought they were kind of novel for years but its completely out of control now.

I wanted to keep lawn organic but its like 2 plants every square foot. Like somebody seeded them on my lawn. You cant mow them over, they just stand back up. Gotta whack or pull. Or spray some big agriculture product. Its a nightmate. Im thinking about just DIY resodding entire lawn

My other problem is I think I have some sort of voal that digs fucking everywhere. Thought it was earthworms. No. Its something larger but the little bastard isnt eating my dandilions like a good little shit should.

And the number of pests on my lawn if you sit or stand on it. Little fucking gnats everywhere. Grasshopper things everywhere. Crawly things that fly. Crawly things that dont fly.

Ever try to have a picnic on the beach with sand flies?

we used to have them here or there in nearly every yard in town, for some reason this summer there have not been any at all

I'm not sure which is stranger. I see bees land on the yellow ones which are their only saving grace.

No one has time for allergies bird flu ebola was going around.

We had dandelions but also no bird flu ebola. Coincidence?

[ - ] BigFatDaddy 2 points 8 monthsSep 4, 2024 13:58:41 ago (+2/-0)

I didn't until now.

[ - ] Nosferatjew 2 points 8 monthsSep 4, 2024 15:07:13 ago (+2/-0)

Yes. But there are some, just not nearly as many as last year. I'm seeing fewer than 5% of what we had last year. And this is not just what I'm seeing on my property, it's everywhere. Less than 5%. Probably less than 1%. Other "weeds" still seem to be thriving.

Definitely a head scratcher.

No bees either, or common houseflies, or skeeters

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 1 point 8 monthsSep 5, 2024 01:01:40 ago (+1/-0)

I have lots of bees, especially by the goldenrod

Got stung pretty good yesterday. Hands deflated some

[ - ] Ragnar 2 points 8 monthsSep 4, 2024 15:52:55 ago (+2/-0)

We have plenty, our kids chase them

[ - ] ymihere 2 points 8 monthsSep 4, 2024 16:30:41 ago (+2/-0)

Very few - but some - morer clover than anything...

[ - ] Crackinjokes 2 points 8 monthsSep 4, 2024 19:39:44 ago (+2/-0)

Dandelions as long as they haven't been sprayed with some herbicide and pine tree pine needles are two of the most abundant things in America that are really good for you. Pine tree pine needles make a great tea that's full of vitamin c. You can just bite a pine needle right off the tree and you'll taste the vitamin c in the needle it'll be acidic. You can just eat the dandelion leaves as long as they haven't been sprayed with Roundup or something.

Had a fuckton of the bastards around here earlier in the summer. Some areas looked like a cotton truck exploded.

Northwest redoubt reporting in.

We've got shitloads.

[ - ] iSnark 1 point 8 monthsSep 4, 2024 13:52:47 ago (+1/-0)

I think OP had his lawn treated, and he's just rubbing it in... ;-)

[ - ] TheOriginal1Icemonkey 1 point 8 monthsSep 4, 2024 14:01:18 ago (+1/-0)

I fight all kinds of broadleaf crap where I am. I even get wheat sprouting in my lawn from the grain trucks passing by. However, I did manage to keep my lawn green this year and it’s mostly Bermuda grass, a bitch to keep green in a dryer climate. I fertilized like hell at the appropriate times and I also stepped up to Scott’s turf builder. The Vigoro and other, cheaper brands just aren’t as good.

[ - ] Spaceman84 2 points 8 monthsSep 4, 2024 14:23:00 ago (+2/-0)

Get a soil test. They're pretty cheap. Fertilizer with iron will make it darker.

[ - ] iSnark 1 point 8 monthsSep 4, 2024 14:02:59 ago (+1/-0)

Outstanding job, Ole Chap!

I think we need a photo...

[ - ] TheOriginal1Icemonkey 1 point 8 monthsSep 4, 2024 14:04:54 ago (+1/-0)

Thank you, but it’s not that great. Just an average lawn. A mix of bluegrass, Bermuda, and a few others.

[ - ] iSnark 1 point 8 monthsSep 4, 2024 14:10:04 ago (+1/-0)

You've got 5 Acres though, No?

[ - ] TheOriginal1Icemonkey 2 points 8 monthsSep 4, 2024 14:11:49 ago (+2/-0)

I just have lawn around the house. The rest of the lot is a field I disk in.
I know, I should be growing something on it.

[ - ] MaryXmas 2 points 8 monthsSep 4, 2024 14:29:44 ago (+2/-0)

Nitrogen fixers like winter wheat.

[ - ] iSnark 1 point 8 monthsSep 4, 2024 14:21:26 ago (+1/-0)*

Maybe start off small and expand it each year, until you get to the size area you're comfortable with. Just a thought...

[ - ] TheOriginal1Icemonkey 1 point 8 monthsSep 4, 2024 16:24:49 ago (+1/-0)

I thought about making the who.e acreage into a park-like setting by carving winding paths through it and planting native trees and shrubs. I’d be long gone before seeing it mature. Also considering a vineyard that someone else would maintain and just give me a few cases of wine each year. I’d need a pro to come in and test soil and hook up everything. It would be a nice view. Not a lot of grapes grown where I am though.

[ - ] iSnark 1 point 8 monthsSep 4, 2024 17:04:48 ago (+1/-0)

It's nice that you have those options. You should consider planting pumpkins, next year in time for Thanksgiving and Halloween, I have to believe you'd make a killing off of them. And I know that you're in Cali, so maybe that complicates things, with the amount of corporate farm growing that goes on in your state. Just a thought...

My lawn died because the fucking assholes that installed the sod put no topsoil in. So I had a lot of dandelions.

[ - ] Spaceman84 1 point 8 monthsSep 4, 2024 14:21:29 ago (+1/-0)

That's par for the course if it's in a development built in the last decade or two. The topsoil is sold and they lay sod on bare clay.

[ - ] NoRefunds 1 point 8 monthsSep 4, 2024 15:00:44 ago (+1/-0)

yep. literally the entire neighborhood had to redo their front and rear lawns. cost me $10k. I had to shop around for a long ass time too.

The best part is, they bought the cheapest sprinklers. Had to swap out all my sprinklers for rainbirds. Another $600

[ - ] bobdole9 1 point 8 monthsSep 4, 2024 17:57:37 ago (+1/-0)

I miss the Rain Bird system from my first Michigan house. Fun to just sit and listen to the tick.

[ - ] PotatoWhisperer2 1 point 8 monthsSep 4, 2024 18:12:21 ago (+1/-0)

I need to get a sprinkler system. Eh, lawn's dead anyway.

[ - ] NoRefunds 1 point 8 monthsSep 4, 2024 19:10:09 ago (+1/-0)

Rainbird 32SA 360° and use a Bhyve controller

[ - ] Not_a_redfugee 3 points 8 monthsSep 4, 2024 14:00:27 ago (+3/-0)

For me it's a never ending battle between my poor bermuda grass and the hordes of shitskin weed invaders.

[ - ] Nosferatjew 3 points 8 monthsSep 4, 2024 15:08:48 ago (+3/-0)

The bermuda grass is the invader. "Weeds" are simply native plants, attempting to reclaim territory.

[ - ] HonkyMcNiggerSpic 3 points 8 monthsSep 4, 2024 14:07:00 ago (+3/-0)

I have loads of them. Its from compacted ground or calcium deficiency. If you don't have any then things are "good"? I don't mind them. I think they're pretty and we sometimes make tea or my wife uses them in a recipe or whatever.

[ - ] HomerSampson 2 points 8 monthsSep 4, 2024 15:50:40 ago (+2/-0)

I use them for all kinds of things. I even make wine. Dandolines have tons of health benifits. Why do you think monsanto spends billions trying to kill them.

[ - ] SteppingRazor 0 points 8 monthsSep 4, 2024 16:59:34 ago (+0/-0)

I know a lady that makes a dandelion IPA. She’s not a very good brewer though.

Tea? With dandelions? What is this. Oh I never realized those white ones you can blow are the same as the yellow ones

[ - ] Sector2 3 points 8 monthsSep 4, 2024 14:24:17 ago (+3/-0)*

Haven't had dandelions, but found a seed source. They have several varieties.

I have a ton.

[ - ] AugustineOfHippo2 4 points 8 monthsSep 4, 2024 14:22:25 ago (+4/-0)

Dandelions and crab grass galore in my lawn. My girls love to make crowns from the dandelion flowers.

No.
Only you.
