I fight all kinds of broadleaf crap where I am. I even get wheat sprouting in my lawn from the grain trucks passing by. However, I did manage to keep my lawn green this year and it’s mostly Bermuda grass, a bitch to keep green in a dryer climate. I fertilized like hell at the appropriate times and I also stepped up to Scott’s turf builder. The Vigoro and other, cheaper brands just aren’t as good.

Get a soil test. They're pretty cheap. Fertilizer with iron will make it darker.

Thank you, but it’s not that great. Just an average lawn. A mix of bluegrass, Bermuda, and a few others.

I thought about making the who.e acreage into a park-like setting by carving winding paths through it and planting native trees and shrubs. I’d be long gone before seeing it mature. Also considering a vineyard that someone else would maintain and just give me a few cases of wine each year. I’d need a pro to come in and test soil and hook up everything. It would be a nice view. Not a lot of grapes grown where I am though.

It's nice that you have those options. You should consider planting pumpkins, next year in time for Thanksgiving and Halloween, I have to believe you'd make a killing off of them. And I know that you're in Cali, so maybe that complicates things, with the amount of corporate farm growing that goes on in your state. Just a thought...

Have not seen any dandelion flowers in my yard this year....ive got some random plants scattered around, but now that you mention it, I don't remember seeing any flowers yet.

My lawn died because the fucking assholes that installed the sod put no topsoil in. So I had a lot of dandelions.

That's par for the course if it's in a development built in the last decade or two. The topsoil is sold and they lay sod on bare clay.

yep. literally the entire neighborhood had to redo their front and rear lawns. cost me $10k. I had to shop around for a long ass time too.

The best part is, they bought the cheapest sprinklers. Had to swap out all my sprinklers for rainbirds. Another $600

I have loads of them. Its from compacted ground or calcium deficiency. If you don't have any then things are "good"? I don't mind them. I think they're pretty and we sometimes make tea or my wife uses them in a recipe or whatever.

Yes. But there are some, just not nearly as many as last year. I'm seeing fewer than 5% of what we had last year. And this is not just what I'm seeing on my property, it's everywhere. Less than 5%. Probably less than 1%. Other "weeds" still seem to be thriving.

Definitely a head scratcher.

Dandelions as long as they haven't been sprayed with some herbicide and pine tree pine needles are two of the most abundant things in America that are really good for you. Pine tree pine needles make a great tea that's full of vitamin c. You can just bite a pine needle right off the tree and you'll taste the vitamin c in the needle it'll be acidic. You can just eat the dandelion leaves as long as they haven't been sprayed with Roundup or something.

My yard is infested with these fuckers. I thought they were kind of novel for years but its completely out of control now.

I wanted to keep lawn organic but its like 2 plants every square foot. Like somebody seeded them on my lawn. You cant mow them over, they just stand back up. Gotta whack or pull. Or spray some big agriculture product. Its a nightmate. Im thinking about just DIY resodding entire lawn

My other problem is I think I have some sort of voal that digs fucking everywhere. Thought it was earthworms. No. Its something larger but the little bastard isnt eating my dandilions like a good little shit should.

And the number of pests on my lawn if you sit or stand on it. Little fucking gnats everywhere. Grasshopper things everywhere. Crawly things that fly. Crawly things that dont fly.
