My cats growing up were farm cats that were too stupid to be out on the farm. They stayed inside (no fleas or presents brought in) and were neutered (marking did nothing). I had fun harassing them, and they would mess with me right back.

Still not totally convinced a cat shitting in a box inside is less annoying than dogs shitting in your yard.
