I was in formation for a change of command ceremony on Governors Island in NY harbor.

Over 500 Coast Guard in full dress uniform standing in the summer heat. Just as some long winded bloviating officer said the words "untiring devotion to duty" four guys keeled over unconscious! I mean they fell like trees. No arms out to break their fall. Just flat on face!

These guys were in front of me in my immediate field of view. I couldnt help it. I started laughing. And I couldnt stop. I laughed harder and harder until it probably looked like I was convulsing.

A Chief Petty Officer in my unit came up and told me to leave the formation. Later when his superiors questioned me walking away from the formation he covered my ass and said that I was about to keel over and he dismissed me!
