This is what I was doing in the garden today.

Sifting rough compost from the compost heap to get a fine tilth mixture that can be used to plant seeds in. Yes, I've been making "soil" which I find very satisfying. It's not real soil as in dirt because there are no minerals in it, I guess. It's just an organic mix but the plants don't seem to mind.

After spending a couple seasons gardening, it became abundantly clear that my time was far more valuable elsewhere. I thought this hobby would stick with me but never again will I work the soil for food.

Thanks bro. Concentrating this season on "button squash" 'cos the missus likes them:

but I have had very little luck with them. I can grow the plants but not get fruit because I have a "macho garden" - very few female flowers on the squash. Going to grow a few cucumbers but the lebanese variety which you don't need to peel.

Can you get fruit bearing trees to grow? (apples, plums, cherries) or is that not a thing in your land?

We did well with blood oranges/valencia oranges this year. Last year got a large crop of mangoes (approx. 35) from the small mango tree which some years bears fruit and other years doesn't. But overall we aren't great fruit-tree growers because they are too much trouble. You need to net them to keep out the cockatoos and possums! Anyway...goodnight!
