I think there is a loose correlation between game engines imposing their own tooling and developer faggotry, concealed or otherwise. There are different degrees of it, but ultimately it takes a faggot to become the entire development environment, knowing that the best programmers don't want that.
There's room for engine-specific scene editors if the output is treated like an asset, loaded by a program outside of engine control which includes the engine as a library, ideally CMake-friendly for its supported platforms. Engine scripting needs to be either very good or very necessary, at least to be a better idea than implementing it as a Typescript/Javascript API instead (Lua is for niggers).
