I'm no soyboy. I'm eating meatballs right now. Only the good lord knows what's in them. But what I hate is how meat is grown in factory farms. The conditions we put these animals through are a great shame to the human race.
We seem to be approaching the technological singularity. A point beyond which living conditions for humans and farm animals alike will drastically improve. I'm not saying your meat will be grown in a lab because I know a lot of you hates that so much. But aside from that it seems reasonable to expect for there to be new ways to raise farm animals. Green fields, blue skies, brought to you by robots and AI.
I propose a new type of monument for the farm animals of today. It would look more like a nature preserve but its primary purpose would be to act as a monument for remembering the unfathomable number of farm animals who spent their lives in what could be described as an S&M torture dungeon. It would simply be a few acres where farm animals of today are allowed to roam free in conditions that they would prefer. Herds, green fields, blue skies, good food, shelter, robots to clean up all the shit, etc.
On the proverbial "day 2" of the singularity I believe it is our ethical imperative to look factory farming squarely in the face and although we may not be able to right certain wrongs we may be able to offer some sunshine and a bright retirement to those lineages that have given so much to us. If we just throw them away when they are no longer needed it will be a stain on the soul of the human race.

Build a zoo? fixing the 2 main problems first would be negate the need for a living memorial.
Your "zoo"..what animals qualify and what happens to these animals when they die? I could see some wef'er liking the idea of having a fully tax payer funded farm of only the best breeds of animals taken care of using the best methods available just for their own personal use.

I didn't read the rest of your post and I ofc, do not want lab grown meat. I agree with you that the animals should be treated in a manner that is typically considered "Humane". We are gonna kill and eat it, we should give it a respectable life first. We know how this ends. It does not. Let's not tell it.
