Acksually, there is evidence to suggest that the Brits initially sounded more American but after America's Independence they began intentionally making it sound stupid to distinguish from the Yanks.
There are 13 major and distinct English dialects, Cockney, Geordie, Scouse, Brummie, West County, Tyke & Estuary to name a few off the top of my head. But you are telling me, off all the English migrants that founded the first 10 colonies in America, none of their dialects existed and were all invented after USA because real English sounded like yanks?
