When you can't even afford your own place and if you're not homeless or living with your parents you're sharing a toilet with 5 other people renting a room in a disgusting flophouse-like setting. Could be that K selected populations that are under attack from R select populations don't produce as many children in such a hostile environment. R select just don't care and breed anyway.
