The Federal Court has found that the Classification Review Board got it wrong by classifying the book “Gender Queer” as unrestricted. Hundreds of submissions to the Board criticised the book as pornographic and harmful to children.

The consumer advice of ‘M – Not recommended for readers under 15 years, it is not illegal to show this content to a minor person under the age of 15yrs nor are there restrictions in palce precluding vendors of selling this content to persons under 15.

From the Classification board:

Unrestricted. Anyone can purchase an Unrestricted publication. Unrestricted publications can contain content that is not recommended for children under the age of 15. These publications will have consumer advice of M (Mature)—Not Recommended for Readers under 15 Years.

So, only who can view it is restricted (under 15), not the content ?/.

But it also states 'anyone can purchase an unrestricted publication' does that mean under 15's (without viewing it) ?.

So, am i correct that It doesn't forbid under 15's only that it is 'not recommended'. Ie, R18 publications are 'restricted to those 18 and over' not 'recommended for 18 and over.

I'm so confused right now, lol.

R18 means you have to be 18+ to view and purchase the classified media legally.

M15 means anyone can view and purchase the content, there is no legal requirement enforced and only a recommendation exists. The material is unrestricted for all ages.

Not only that but, but the author is misrepresenting Ranma, since the main character doesn't swap genders when he wants, he is cursed into doing so when splashed with hot or old water, a curse he spends the entire series trying to undo. Bc once it is accepted into the school library it becomes easier for the teachers/ administration to now use the force of the Education curriculum to have the title placed onto the required reading schedule.
