The henotheistic culture who worshipped yahweh in Canaan during the late iron age was an amalgam of the many tribes of Canaan who assimilated and abandoned their previous ethnic identities (philistines, hittites, amorites, edomites) under a pro-Yahweh warlord regime such as King David’s . The 12 tribes were not even patrilineally related to each other. There was wide y chromosomal diversity among Israelites/Hebrews/Judeans because the story of Abraham and Jacob was fake and gay! It was a story made up by priests about a time period when their people did not yet have writing. They had no idea where they came from. They were speculating.

Let us then call the Judeans of the late second temple period the “real jews” — they were heavily mixed people that were civically unified when Yahweh began to be conflated with El, even before the worship of other gods was banned. But they have some genetic markers consitent with nearby groups in the region.

Modern jews such as ashkhenazis, sephardics, bukhari, etc are mostly patrilineally descended from this levantine group. But patrilineal descent is not a good indicator of overall genetic ancestry. Ashkhenazis and sephardics are 50 European as shown by a study of their mtDNA and their autosomal DNA. And the paternal founders of those groups may have already been mixed with non-levantine ancestry from places like Iraq and the caucasus during earlier phases of the diaspora.

You can’t go by Y chorom. haplogroups. They can become very watered down over time. Half of Indian men have R1a haplogroup. So do most ethnic russian and polish men. Theyve got the same patrilineal descent within about 4000 years. Are they closely related?

Jews were polygynous and likely kept many foreign concubines during much of the diaspora. Theres tons of archived correspondence between rabbis discussing the problems of converting half-breeds with gentile mothers. Mamzers.

Jews are far less endogamous than they believe themselves to be. And if you map all the jewish sub-groups on a PCA chart they do not look closely related to each other except for the sephards and the ashkhenazis.
