Huge leaves but...will there be any button-squash?

These leaves look terrific. They are so big. Even if I don't get any button-squash I'll still feel rather pleased as they make the garden look fruitful and productive!

Get yellow crookneck seeds/plants and plant them tomorrow! They're one of the most delicious squash, and you should be able to pick a few babies daily once they start producing.

Pick them when they're smaller than the smallest in that photo, at their most tender stage. Then the plant can put its energy into producing more. Pick and eat the blossoms if you start getting too many.

Button squash are small with scalloped edges and skin that is generally yellow. The flesh is pale white and the whole squash is eaten, including the skin and seeds. They taste similar to zucchini.

The missus can choke those zucchini tasting things down if she wants. Get the yellow crooknecks for you!

You should have planted pansies.

Seriously though, looking good. I've heard too much nitrogen and you get nothing but leaves. Squash are a bit finicky.

Nitrogen.Yep...my magic mulch contains a mix of decomposed grass and decomposed leaf litter.The other problem is a lack of female flowers. Why do women hate me?
