I learned: "Never let an owl perch on your bare arm" from my cousin.
Uncle had a great horned owl for a few months nursing him back to health. Found him on the side of the road all fucked up, but still flapping one wing and looking pissed off. He named him "The Count" because of the stiff gait and hunched up wings looking like how Dracula walked in the old movies.
My cousin was demonstrating how much an owl can swivel its head by moving a raw chicken leg in front of his face when he suddenly screamed in pain and grabbed The Count by the legs. He instantly had 8 deep punctures pumping blood down his arm and the owl hardly flexed his talons at all.
Also, that little beak is very deceptive.
You only see the little hook in pictures because the rest of it is hidden by feathers.
When The Count would eat a chunk of raw chicken, his whole head would hinge open revealing a beak like a bald eagle.
