I don't really know how it's solved. I assume there is massive government regulation that makes it hard for new insurance companies to form that aren't like other ones. I also have to acknowledge that people probably abuse the fuck out of insurance, e.g. wanting the same rates with pre-existing conditions, not having insurance until they need it, wanting insurance to pay everyday costs (insurance is for catastrophic, unexpected costs, not expected expenses), going to the hospital for every minor ailment, people not taking care of their health, shithole people the government forces them to cover below cost or for free.

I want insurance that I can have just for huge expenses (e.g. above $50k), broken into risk pools based on health condition and risk, able to operate in a true free market with other similar companies so there's price competition.

Is there a list somewhere? Asking for a friend, as always.
