I'm convinced man can't and hasn't left High Altitude Low Earth orbit. The ISs (just an orbiting junk object) sits in this zone, and i think of this zone inverse to the deep sea (the further down you go the more atmospheric pressure - crushing unless protected - the further up is the less atmospheric pressure and weightlessness ( but causing explosive expansion unless protected). But there is a nature/ finite limit for travelling in to both zones.

However that doesn't mean they never went to the moon. The moon is basically an indestructible satellite. So if they did reach it they probably militarized the fuck out of the lunar surface by placing nukes and spy hardware on it. That fact alone would explain why we'd never get them to confess to the real extend of any hypothetical black budget space program.
