Not really related but back when SF was relatively nice, I always thought it was funny how the tolls were set up. You had to pay to get into SF and pay to leave Oakland. There were probably better routes for people familiar with the area, but whenever I had to visit which was often, that's pretty much how it would go.

The only way to avoid the toll when driving to San Francisco is to drive all the way around the south bay, and up the peninsula, thus skipping all the bridges, and never crossing over a body of water. No tolls, but it sure would take a while.

Just looked at a map of San Francisco.

Never realized it was actually a peninsula as I’d never followed that stretch of land south. Photos and maps are always too zoomed in.

Will give them praise for the Internet Archive.
