death of an era: Jetbrains

submitted by GodsNotDead to TellTalk 4 monthsDec 23, 2024 19:38:46 ago (+3/-0)     (TellTalk)

They used to have rock solid products, but then they decided to do dumb shit like adding a new UI, forcing their intellisense behind a subscription, constant memory problems, git crashing or not tracking files properly. They used to be the best, but lately, I find myself using the command line more often, and msot of the features that used to make it great can be found with copilot or other free editors out there. It's sad because 10 years ago, it was the novelty product of the ages, but now, its just another bloated piece of shit

I use rider and phpstorm exclusively.

I find it hard to go back to visual studio and netbrains.

But the subscription is ludicrous.

Microsoft isnt helping since they already mentioned they abandoned Visual Studio for VS Code. After they fired all the Whites, there was no one left to enhance VS so it was dumped. 20+ years of innovation down the drain

Yep.
And vs code is just a glorified text editor / notepad++, that takes a ton of plug-ins to make useful.

I used it to make a suite... of netsuite plugins/apps and haven't used it since.

There are just better options.

Such is life in software products. Opens the door to competition.
