The other option I like to run by people with no experience is.. don't.

If you are risking a multi-thousand dollar item over an unnecessary trip while having no experience, it isn't worth it.

"But I need to get shit done today!" When you amortize the odds of one of these people fucking it up and the cost of a car, buy not wrecking your car today you got something done. Probabalistically you are up $200 verses a dumber you that chances it just by doing nothing.

The second advice is take all the time you need. There is no rush. "But I need to get more done!". No. But going out and managing to not wreck your car you are earning a whole fucking car by not wrecking it. That's worth more than the tiny extra you would get done trying to be quick.

Now other people can go fast. Some of us have been driving beaters in the snow since we were teens. We know the break point and recovery at every speed in any condition. We might even intentionally slide because we know how to handle that. Heck, I don't even do that anymore because I can't trust these modern vehicles. You're driving around a $20,000 dvd player in an environment where you really need analog.

It's not a joke. I have to live/work in downtown Atlanta for 5 years. The streets are narrow as fuck, and the average driver has no idea how to deal with black ice, ice, or snow.

Imagine watching "educated" Niggers driving $60k BMW's, on completely bald tires, at 40 mph, on the snow-ice. It was pure entertainment.

Even just 1/2 inch of snow would shut down most of the city... all due to stupid fucking drivers crashing.

As a southerner: What is snow?

Never really understood this. Yeah, us southerners freak out over a little snow, but the ribbing is rich coming from people whos' states have medians cluttered with twisted up trucks and smashed cars in the winter.

lol Its true. It causes pure chaos and its funny. I loved seeing all the people who've never seen snow before encountering it for the first time when I lived down there.

I moved south from MI over 15 years ago and have seen snow maybe three times since I lived here. When I drove back to MI one winter the roads were pretty bad, and I was white knuckle most of the way. It’s pretty scary if you aren’t used to it.

I'd be driving slow.

That said, Grandma was a little too talky talky with her girlfriends one day and it was questionable whether we were going to make her flight back home one day.

"We gotta GO gramma."

That V8 was screaming and she learned why they call it an Oh Shit! handle. She still loves me.

Unironically good advice, given in a way to reach the dumbest people who need the advice the most.

People who drive in the snow regularly also underestimate how bad the conditions are when it snows in places that don't get snow. It is much worse than places that have snow tires, salt trucks, and the oil has been washed off the roads by earlier rain or snow.
