Do we have the technical talent amoung us, to assume the upkeep & maintenance of this site, IF @system were open to turning it over to us? THOUGHTS?

Is there a scenario where this site can be transferred to an existing user(s) to manage, IF we came up with a workable solution to keep it going? I guess the questions I would ask are, what, if any local hardware is involved that's not a service that's being managed by a vendor, and how portable is the code? What would @system need from us to assume the site? If it's a reasonable amount do we open a go-fund-me type account for our internal community, and try fundraising it? Is this something that system would be open to? I guess I wonder, is this really about rising prices, or is System just spent. Maybe we were too unappreciative of what he did for us. Regardless, If there is a possibility of keeping this place afloat, we should! Maybe system or even x0x7 would be able to recommend someone who has the necessary skills to take this project over.

I'm interested in what the rest of you GOATS think...

Ultimately, @system gets to make that call. It would be GREAT if he turned it over, stepped away, recharged his "batteries", and came back with fire in his gonads, and a passion to fall in love with this place again!

Someone suggested the same thing, but ultimately I can't. I'm busy enough that I only sleep 4 hours a night (if that) five or six days a week. I'd already considered building a voat alternative, the money is there in the form of plenty of people willing to contribute, just not the time. I even considered building an in-depth guerilla/spy/colorchange/economic warfare sim and selling it say at $10 a pop to fund voat or an alternative (even with all the people turned off of 'vidya'), because I think that would be something that would interest goats (and the data collection on the hundreds or thousands of sim runs would be good ML training data for future prediction), but ultimately that requires again, a time investment I can't make now. It comes down to 1. I have to work to pay bills now, 2. That leaves no time for additional projects.

I'm already building commercial software (slowly) to solve the money problem, so I can take time to work on new projects.

Look, I don't know where @systems mind is regarding the transfer of this forum to a new management/technical person or team. He might want some compensation for his time invested, maybe he doesn't, who knows. I think we need to have that discussion with him! Best case, is that he wants this site to go on, and, he's willing to turn the keys over to someone. An even better case, would be that he stays on, and assists the new management/technical team. Maybe he's just burn out! He did pretty recently, suffer the loss of a family member. (To which I say, that I hope system is ok. We're really good at beating the shit out of each other, maybe we need to be better about having each others backs!) Or maybe we've just become a major league pain in his ass, myself included!

I don't know Paul, I agree that the match has been lit, but, I think it's more of a 'Controlled Burn". How does system expect that we're not going to be passionate about this. And, maybe, we've landed on the cause of his decision to shut it down... I don't remember if he ever asked for us to help with anything. Maybe it was all too much with him, and his personal life.
