Recommendations for a block heater?

submitted by AugustineOfHippo2 to AskUpgoat 4 monthsJan 6, 2025 11:55:54 ago (+7/-0)     (AskUpgoat)

I have used the magnetic ones years and years ago, and didn't have good luck. Are they better nowadays?
Iirc there are drain plug versions, and magnetic versions.
I would like to install and not have to remove, so I would be driving with it on. Not sure if the magnetic ones would be good for that?

back in my days you would start a small fire under the engine block

Frost plug heaters are good if the frost plugs are easily accessible.
As was mentioned, a tank type heater circulates the coolant and you probably don't need to completely drain the system to install it.

The have one at tisco that circulates your coolant. You have to plumb it in but its the best.
