Watch: Amazon Uses Huge Diesel Generator To Charge Electric Delivery Van Fleet

Amazon closed out 2024 with more than 20,000 electric delivery vans manufactured by Rivian in its fleet nationwide. The e-commerce giant highlights on its website that the electric vans are part of its "urgent" climate change initiative to "remove carbon emissions from transportation systems."

However, Amazon faces mounting criticism for gaslighting the public about its net zero goals and actual operational fleet practices.

Take, for instance, Amazon's website. Within the Sustainability section, the company laid out its approach to fight so-called global warming:

"To reach this target, we're also expanding the use of zero-emission transportation such as electric delivery vans, cargo e-bikes, and on-foot deliveries, and we engage in industry initiatives to remove carbon emissions from transportation systems like ocean shipping, aviation, and trucking. We're also using innovative construction techniques and building materials to make our fulfillment centers, data centers, offices, and physical retail locations more sustainable.

While the company promotes its electric delivery vans as part of its effort to save the planet from a fiery demise—an end-of-world scenario Al Gore has inaccurately predicted for decades—it appears that, at least in one location, Amazon is reportedly relying on a massive diesel generator to charge a fleet of Rivian vans.

"So I understand green energy, electric vehicles - Amazon is doing their part. Stay green. But doesn't it defeat the purpose when you have a diesel-powered generator electrifying all of the EVs? It makes no sense," the TikTok user said in the video

This is not necessarily the own you think it is. Centralizing the generation allows for that system to be highly tuned and to run at a constant RPM. The way to get max efficiency out of ICE is to allow it run at its ideal RPM and never vary.

Now, does carrying all of that battery weight out on deliveries offset the benefits of centralized gen? I don't know. But it's also a different question.

Realistically they can just calculate how much diesel they're consuming with one set up vs. the other then determine what's most fuel efficient. If they truly want to be green they'd have to factor in any additional environmental impact contributors like the batteries manufacturing and disposal requirements.

You are dumb. The power to cost ratio of electricity is far lower than diesel.

A genset by design won't vary
RPM once at operating temp and loaded unless something is mechanically wrong. With load changes, the AFR controller of the driver (diesel engine) may need to make adjustments here and there and HZ output may temporarily fluctuate but there are design considerations as well to control and limit this from affecting output.

If Amazon had actual smart people working there and wanted some good marketing, they could deploy landfill gensets that run off waste gas and feed those back into the grid so they could truly claim their use of line power is not only net zero but actually reducing emissions by providing a cleaner burn to these organic gasses.

Let’s not sweep under the rug the fact that battery manufacturing rapes the land like a horny kike in a daycare.

Also, if they were not running diesel to get the juice it would be coming from a plant far far away. Just the amount of power lost in transmission lines could run a dozen trucks for a day or more.

EV is a cult today.

The future will be awesome and clean and powerful….., today it is just a dream, a scam, a grift and a cult.

Could be temporary due to some problem with charging infrastructure. Could even be more efficient due to smaller engines with constantly-changing RPMs having lower efficiency. Or they got some big government subsidies for going "electric".

DING DING DING

subsidies are a major driver behind the EV cult.

Soon both the US and Canada will be dumping subsidies as their new ‘conservative’ governments announce very different mandates from existing.

I've seen diesel generators at Walmarts with Tesla charging stations.

"Tesla" charging stations, only charge-up the battery that starts the Diesel engine.

Jews are immune to charges of hypocracy.

Diesel gensets are cool.

This is fine. I honestly don't gaf how anyone charges their gay electric vehicles.
