I've got one for my old-ass (2013) laptop. Works just fine and speeds/latency are exactly the same as on my desktop with a built-in gigabit card.

they are fine nowadays. Works fine. I use one for wokr because stupid work gives me a beast but no ethernet and shit wifi adaptor.

they suck in that they take up a usb slot but otherwise are fine. the USB 3.0 bus is faster than your ethernet connection.
