We had the option of learning french or spanish when I was in school. Spics were already invading our country back then and everyone said spanish was the practical choice but I chose french because its just classier. I think you must live in a former french colony, E.
Beginning in the 1986-87 school year, they made it mandatory to take one year of foreign language classes. The year I started high school, they dropped the German and French classes from the curriculum, and only Spanish remained (in SoCal).
Parents started complaining at the parent teacher conference (it had a different name for high schools, but I can't remember what it was), and they wanted the students to have more options. Surprisingly, the spics were advocating the most for more options (probably because they already knew Spanish). The school board made a "compromise": not by adding other options, but students could fulfill the foreign language requirement by taking two semesters of the same introduction to art class. (honk honk)
(Side story) They only had two teachers that regularly taught that course, and they were both man-hating lesbians with degrees in finger painting. I took both of their classes, the same course, and I got a worse grade by the second teacher. She was a literal Georgia O'Keefe wannabe and would hang her "work" all around the classroom. She ended up getting investigated for giving males worse grades because the data was "strange" how straight A students would get a B or C in her course if they were male, but not female. They didn't fire her, but they kept a closer eye on her, so she became even more of a bitch.
They ended up having to open more art classes because of the demand, and so they had a male P.E. coach come teach art. I heard his class was easy, but I already dropped out of high school. (I realized they literally send the retarded people there.)
Spanish, Italian or French mostly in NYC. I think there was like one Russian class and one Latin class. If we actually had a decent selection of languages, I would have tried Japanese.
You only refuse to speak french if a lesser french speaker is trying to speak french to you. If no one around you speaks french, then you insert as much french as you possibly can and act shocked and superior when no one understands you. Fucking amateurs.
