Comgrats man. You've made ut out of the forest. If I had a year sober no way in hell I'd ever go back. I come from a Irish/Scot/English heritage alcohol runs deep. Can't tell you how many family members drank themselves to death or just plowed through and crashed towards the end. Alcohol is a tricky drug. You find it everywhere and it's socially acceptable. Keep on the good fight. Don't go back to it. You're way better off without the poison in you're life. Don't want to worry you, but as far as I've seen in my life it's the downfall of most people when they got clean for a while and go back to it. You go as hard as you did when you were drinking heavily, but your body just can't take it. My uncle was the worst I've seen. Guy drank a handle of 100 proof vodka a day. Beer was just supplemental. Made it to almost 60, but the last few years were awful to see. Stay strong, stay healthy, live to see a better day man.
I had a beer a couple weeks ago, and meh. I'm not stopping alcohol 'entirely', but the beer was becoming too much of a habitual thing, even at just a few per week. If anyone wants to stop or reduce consumption, just do that. It doesn't have to be a big deal.
Does it sound like rational behavior? Seems like there would be a lot of very expensive and negative consequences for even one episode. How would this type of event occur in the absence of a cognitive defect?
Oh, you mean like allowing a scheming, thieving, foreign tribe to control every aspect of your economy?

Hm... Maybe we all actually have defective brains?

I'd draw a distinction between underpowered and defective, but that is an argument to be made. Having cattle-brain or rancher-brain both carry a lot of negatives. As free-range as possible is the better position to occupy, imo.
One concept the dry-drunkards in AA often fail to grasp is that one must keep the dopamine flowing. Instead of relying on a dopamine-stimulating drug, it serves us very well to go out there and build a fulfilling life for ourselves.
Dopamine affinity is what created our ancestors: Explorers always seeking more. Pioneers. So wether it be in faith, family, business, education, or career: Be sure to work towards highly-rewarding endeavors and take the time to humble yourself with mindfulness: appreciating your life and its many blessings. That is the serotnonin.
Because if we can’t stop to appreciate each passing day, then why the fuck are we doing this in the first place?
A lot of 'quitters' fail because they didn't find a replacement for boozing. I got back into playing music when I quit about 12 years ago. In my ads, I said only sober musicians need apply. It was a real challenge finding non-drunks or potheads, but I eventually did. Playing sober was very weird at first, but soon became normal, and far more productive than the past experiences of every rehearsal and gig being soaked in alcohol.
Didn’t you ask a few months ago, when does it get better? Now you’re Swayze in Roadhouse. I assume you are feeling better. Glad to hear it. Dont go too crazy with the other stuff. Keep pushing toward a healthy life style.
Yea, it is amazing how things are still getting clearer at 17 months sober. Remember to ALWAYS stay vigilant against that first drink so you don't relapse
