I was just over at my parents' and my dad was eating some and I could smell it across the house. Anise, fennel, licorice, it's all just awful. It'll ruin a good sausage

My mom would make traditional italian biscotti from scratch. You could break a molar and some batches had a wee bit much of anise. We couldn't afford almonds so anise it was. I've just come to appreciate fennel especially in soups or broths/stocks. But I have always detested black licorice. The smell alone can cause a gag reflex. Licorice today is probably made with some plastic in it.

Black licorice originated in the UK in the 1600's.

Just because there are Dutch, German and Nordic versions, doesn't make it singularly 'Nordic'.

Yes, the UK does have Germanic roots, however it is just one of several early (founding) populations - including Prehistoric Brittonic/ Celtic, Roman, Welsh, Cornish, Highlands Scot etc (all non-Germanic).

Nope, only those that are a part of that grouping are Germanic, if some 40% of the (only including White/ European) UK population have Germanic ancestry/ roots that doesn't actually mean all the White/ European population in the UK, or the UK as a whole is Germanic.

In the same way that the White Afrikaans Republics do not automatically make everyone in the Transvaal - White Afrikaans or South Africa a White Afrikaan Nation.
