I'm late to the party. How do I get a cheap NVIDIA GPU?

OK. Now that you're done laughing - I need to buy a NVIDIA GPU (16GB+ memory). How/where do I get this? I need it to run CUDA / pytorch.

Try the internet

You know you can spin up artificial servers and remote cards on Amazon or digital Ocean or multiple other providers of those cards online and run your programming remotely. I mean unless you're going to be using the darn thing 8 hours a day if you're really just going to run some programs every once in awhile or for 20 minutes a day or whatever it's a lot cheaper and you'll be able to use better machines if you spin up remote machines and the cost is dropped way down

Cheaper now than during lockdown + supply chain sabotage. Also, most folks saying diminishing returns start at the 3090. So you don't need to buy current gen.

So this doesn't help you currently.

However, check this shit out. AMD APU full system all around $2,000. 128GB of RAM, 96GB assignable to the GPU stack.

That's a lot of RAM for graphics but it won't help with AI. The GPU is relatively weak compared to a dedicated card. You need tightly coupled graphics RAM with a lot of Tensor type cores.

It's one of those systems on a chips. Specifically for AI work loads. I guess we will see how it stacks up to the $6,000 GPUs.

First you need a time machine, to go back to before crypto and ai.
Then fuck it, just buy bitcoin and you can get all the cards you want when we get to today.

Even the GTX 980 is on eBay at the original MSRP. You won’t get anything cheap.

The white man is destroyed by buying an RTX 5090 (and 5080) that ships with fewer ROPs than the spec sheet says. They’re literally lying to everyone about what the card actually has.

Buy an old card.

There are no cheap GPUs.
