Visited My Mother Today. A Little Depressing.

submitted by TheBigGuyFromQueens to Family 1 monthMar 30, 2025 00:42:36 ago (+42/-0)     (Family)

She showed me where she has a few valuables hidden. Like...anticipating her own death without saying as much. I live pretty far away from her. She is in very good health for her age, but she is still pretty old. Frequent welfare checks will be difficult because shes about an hour away. I call her more often now. Probably don't go more than 3 days now without calling. Will probably step that up now to every other day when I'm not bogged down in my own shit. She already gave me her apartment keys last year. I dread having to find her in some state of death, but she only has me, so it will just be something I deal with hopefully not for at least another 5-10 years. The women in my family have some longevity. Her Grandmother lived to be 93, so there's that.

Getting old fucking sucks.

At least you all got time together.

I live pretty far away from her

So move...you to her; her to you. What's the holdup? Does living in mutual anticipation of death sound like a life worth living to either of you?

she only has me

She ain't...her prince dumped her for a different queen.

Is there any way or interest in moving her closer to you? I know she stated she didn't want to leave before, but would she be open to moving closer to you?

The last time I saw my mother, I remembered to hug her and tell her I love her knowing it could be the last time.

I don’t regret that decision in the slightest.

Contact Medicare/Medicaid and request an "in-home healthcare worker" to check up on her every 2-3 days or something. They can do small things for her while there, and also do basic healthcare checks to make sure she is fine on at least a day to day basis. Some even offer to help with light housekeeping duty.

It will most likely be paid for if she is already enrolled.

If not then contact a service like "Visiting Angels" or some local equivalent. They can give you an idea what it would cost out of pocket, or even help you arrange things so that she will qualify for Medicare/Medicaid to pay for it.

That’s the worst! They send some fucking nigger to the house and by the second visit she’s stolen anything that can fit in her purse.

False.

You can personally pick, pre-screen, and approve the person that visits your home. I've personally done this for 2 members of my family.

It might be time to be a bit more objective oriented if things are that bad. If you've got family photo albums, get your mother to point out the people in the photos so you can write their names down on the back, so any relatives you leave the photo albums with know who's in the photos after you're both gone.

my mother is dealing with suppressed leukemia, heart issues, high blood pressure a collapsed lung, chronic pain and some anxiety. she also doesnt sleep much do these issues and yet the manages to get things done as much as she can which is alot. she is in her 70's and she has the beginnings of Alzheimer's as well. its tough to see her start to forget small things but is even thougher to see her in pain. but i would say that she is managing it with humor the best she can so i'm helping her with the chores and being with her the best that i can since we live together. my dad also helps her when cant deal it with anymore. he takes her out to the casinos to wind down from time to time. but yeah i dread the day that the LORD calls her soul that would a heavy blow to me and my siblings but there's nothing that we can do since that's the course of this life. i try my best to give her what she wants. we all do in our own way. i'm also worried about the old man but he has better health than her despite his lung issues because he was a heavy smoker as young man until his 40's. he has patkinson's caused by the fucking convid vaxx and it pains me to see his hands shake alot. aside from all that they are doing the best they can. they are my life!

[ - ] bobdole9 3 points 1 monthMar 30, 2025 10:11:45 ago (+3/-0)

beginnings of Alzheimer's

Grandmother had dementia for over seven years. Towards the end when she barked like a dog at people and had no idea of what was happening, I prayed she would ultimately get better soon. She passed not too long after; though bitersweet, I kept remembering who she was before her mind slipped away.

Protip: don't stay on HRT for menopause for over 20 years.

my granny died in even worse conditions, her kidneys destroyed by diabetes and high blood pressure plus she has to live with amputated legs. i used to clean her up a few times. it wasnt pleasant but i am proud that i was there for her. sadly she died a terrible death hooked up to machines.

her useless sons have to call my mother which was one of the youngest daughter to disconnect her. cowards!!

eventually we all are headed to the same place. some will die with less pain others with more pain and dread. its the nature of life on this stupid planet

Ur mom jokes aside, I'm very glad my mom remarried to a kind southern man. Being alone would be terrible for her.

[ - ] bobdole9 1 point 1 monthMar 30, 2025 10:14:02 ago (+1/-0)

Did they become snowbirds or she stay in warmer weather?

[ - ] big_fat_dangus 1 point 1 monthMar 30, 2025 15:41:43 ago (+1/-0)

Irregular snowbirds, you could say.

[ - ] Crackinjokes 3 points 1 monthMar 30, 2025 09:49:21 ago (+3/-0)

Get her to start using a walker.

Tell her it's for you as much as her.

If she falls and break her hip or head it will ruin both your and her life.

Tell her to use the walker for both of you.

Say it just like that because they will never choose to do it themselves.

Also remove all throw rugs on the floor.

It's the number one cause of old people falling . They trip on the edges as the shuffle their feet.

[ - ] rzr97 4 points 1 monthMar 30, 2025 07:36:36 ago (+4/-0)

If she makes it another 5 to 10 years she might make it forever. Look into the technological singularity. It's going to happen very soon imo.

[ - ] PostWallHelena 2 points 1 monthMar 30, 2025 12:38:17 ago (+2/-0)

Just two more weeks to immortality bro!

[ - ] rzr97 1 point 1 monthMar 30, 2025 14:19:49 ago (+1/-0)

Is it a meme by now. Lol. Nahh, you'll see it coming in all likelihood. They'll have to ramp up chip production like mad. That's the biggest tell. Of course us plebes won't notice it.

Could be immortality. Could be instant death. Could be the jews get there first (all the top ai companies are headed by jews), or they could torture us indefinitely for noticing. Either way, YAYY, mother dear may get tortured forever like the rest of us.

It is a military imperative at this point though so it's going to happen very soon. Here's hoping China gets there first.

[ - ] PostWallHelena 0 points 1 monthMar 30, 2025 14:40:27 ago (+1/-1)

Yeah Its very disturbing. But im not sure it proves we’re nearing a singularity where immortality is possible.

[ - ] rzr97 0 points 1 monthMar 30, 2025 18:14:01 ago (+0/-0)

The theory goes that the technological singularity is the point where intelligence increases at such a rapid rate that we can't see beyond that point. So think of all the atoms on the earth aligned to do the bidding of a superintelligence and then all the atoms of everything.

Honestly I think human aging will be like childs play.

So what happens is right now humans are making "some" of the advancements in ai. It used to be all but now ai is improving ai. As that accelerates and snowballs it will become like a runaway train.

Not that reddit isn't a total shithole for the most part but check out /r/singularity frequently if you want to see the most important thing happening on the planet right now.

Big Guy, if you are the only one your mom has then I'd say she's doing pretty good. You have genuine love in you for her.

[ - ] TheBigGuyFromQueens [op] 8 points 1 monthMar 30, 2025 03:17:06 ago (+8/-0)

The relationship has been mostly acrimonious until the last 3 or so years. She is getting older, so I let shit go.

[ - ] dassar 8 points 1 monthMar 30, 2025 03:55:24 ago (+8/-0)

Good for you man.
All the best.

[ - ] jfroybees 2 points 1 monthMar 30, 2025 16:43:51 ago (+2/-0)

I lost both of my parents much too soon. But I know from experience that is best to end things on a good note.

[ - ] Sunman_Omega 10 points 1 monthMar 30, 2025 01:30:29 ago (+10/-0)

You're lucky that you still have your mom. My mom's been gone for over 20 years now. In fact, this year, I'll be the same age that my mom was when she passed.

[ - ] con77 13 points 1 monthMar 30, 2025 02:50:15 ago (+13/-0)

My mom is 86. It's difficult. She calls me every day at least 1-2 times.

She lives a mile away and I see her usually twice a week.

Her super power is nagging and talking shit about people.

[ - ] paul_neri 5 points 1 monthMar 30, 2025 03:05:36 ago (+5/-0)

If my mum wasn't dead I'd say we were brothers!

Are we related?

[ - ] Belfuro 13 points 1 monthMar 30, 2025 04:11:27 ago (+13/-0)

Just think. 40% of gebx women were judeo-satanist tricked into being like postwallhelena.

When they reach your mums age, they will have literally no one.

How many millions of white women will be found only by their rotting corpses stench half eaten by their cats?

Mind boggling.

Grew up in MA. I'm the youngest of 6. Parents split when I was 12 (best day of my life. Old man was an abusive douche). My mother remarried and moved to FL when I was 18. Fast forward 25 years, her 2nd husband croaked and she is living on her own down there, constantly falling and getting injured. I was 43, still in MA, two oldest siblings dead from cancer, remaining three older than me are complete fuckups. She was a heavy drinker her entire adult life and when she hit 74 or so, she couldn't live on her own anymore. I found a HUD_subsidized apartment a mile away from where I was living and moved her up and in. Spent ten years after that taking care of her (grocery shopping, doctor appointments, dentist, hearing aids, you name it). When the covid bullshit went down, her health was going down hill fast. She rarely got off of her couch, had a pace maker installed, legs swelled up from failing heart, etc.. as much as I did for her she reached a point where she needed 24 hr attention. I found an assisted living home adjacent to a hospital and got her in (I make it sound simple and quick getting her into these places, but the application paper work and waiting lists are mind bogglingly long and complicated). Due to the covid crap, there was 6' distance rules when I went to visit, plexiglass barrier, she understood none of it, they couldn't keep her hearing aids working, they tried keeping a mask on her 24/7, total fucking cruel joke. She lasted only a few months in there before she died St. Patricks day, 2021. I did what I could for 10 years and still feel bad about the way she went out. I will never forget what the scum that rule this rock did to us all with that covid scam

[ - ] TheBigGuyFromQueens [op] 10 points 1 monthMar 30, 2025 05:55:40 ago (+10/-0)

I didn't get to see my Uncle before he passed away because of that Covid quarantine bullshit. I feel you.

Trials and executions and examples need to be made from the malfeasance, crimes against humanity and ignoring the hippocratic oath.

But we aren't a serious country so they'll continue to breathe air.
