Name ONE thing from China any of us want or need

submitted by Trope to AskUpgoat 2 monthsApr 7, 2025 18:17:12 ago (+6/-1)     (AskUpgoat)

I can’t think of a damn thing. Sure, a lot of crap is made in China, but it’s all junk.

I don’t want or need cheap bullshit from Amazon.

Guns and ammo? All manufactured here.

Food? All grown here.

Electronics? Across my family, we have like 40 years of accumulated junk if any of us need a random part of cable.

China really has nothing to offer. Sure, the CO2-powered imitation MAC-10 looks tempting but it’s plastic garbage.

iPhones? What are you, gay? There’s a junk drawer full of old Apple and android phones. Pick one.

I ordered a CNC milling machine that is made in china. I can't afford even the cheapest CNC mill made in the USA. I'd like to buy USA made machine, or even better German made, but I have not been in business very long and simply can't afford it.
If I'd try to save up long enough to afford made in USA or other western country made equipment, I simply would not be able to start and operate my own business.

I wish you much success in your business.

A China made CNC???...in the world of machining "TOLERANCE" is crucial, with rotation comes wobble and top quality bearings are critical in maintaining true precision rotation and this is where China fails, the best bearings are German or Japanese...I can tell you a story about how advanced Japanese bearings are.
The more RPM the more centrifugal forces applied to the bearings and race...nothing worse than an "out of round" shaft/spindle or housing.

I read through the specs sheet. Japanese made spindle bearings, Swiss made linear guides, Taiwan made ball screw.
The things I'll be machining don't have that tight of tolerances, so I should be fine for a while. And when this CNC Mill is all clapped out, I should have made enough profit to buy a German made Mill.

And you have to outfit it with a GPS and transponder link to government due to military capabilities...I'm 97% positive on that because that's what my buddy had to do, but his machine shop was turning out military components and projectiles...good luck

I've only seen that requirement on five axis machines.
Place i worked before had a Mazak mill turn machine with GPS tracker. Even moving it across the shop had to get a US government agency involved to get permissions and what not so the machine wouldn't be locked out. So dumb since we are in Canada.

I don't mind a bowl of won-ton soup and a couple spring rolls or egg rolls once a month but that's it, everything from China is junk, our landfills are bulging with chink junk.

Protective racism? They're better at it than we are, and the strength of their society reflects this.

You seriously think that covers you for "electronics"? 😂

Yes.

Worst case scenario, I’m on a computer less. And I like those odds.

lol, try buying a Made in USA appliance component. Something simple, like a dryer door switch. THERE AIN'T NONE. The shit in hardware stores (most of it) is Chinese. We USED to make all of it, but havent for decades. The factories DO NOT EXIST in the US. The trained workers/designers/engineers do not exist. It would take countless billions to build these factories, and train workers. It would take YEARS. Home Depot has HUNDREDS of THOUSANDS of items for sale, almost all made in China. Your car parts are made in China. On and on. Your car won't start because of a defective module? Tough shit, the module WAS made in China, but there are NONE AVAILABLE now (I mean after China stops making them/embargoes the US/whatever may come).

Then make the bullshit here.

Oh sure, I will just start a factory making washing machine motherboards! I can do that in my garage! Nevermind that there are hundreds of different models! WE CAN DO DIS, PATRIT!!

[ - ] Trope [op] 1 point 2 monthsApr 7, 2025 19:08:06 ago (+2/-1)

I’m not here to bitch about the state of things as they are now but rather lay the foundation for needs to be done.

I appreciate your optimize however sarcastic.

In the meantime, perhaps Taiwan could serve as a valid source of washing machine motherboards.

How about washing machines that actually wash dishes instead of mining bitcoin or spying?

Coal and rare earth metals. I don't mind rinsing the blood off them, either.

Well, you file the proper immigration paperwork, Joe, and we’ll be all squared away.

We should let Japan finish the job.
