I've seen quite a number of phrases he used that were clearly literal translations from French. Personally, I think he's French Canadian and have thought so for a long time.

We're exposed to North American English enough not to make grammatical errors like that & saying "Je pense savoir..." is truly a France french thing, we just say "Je pense..."

Good to know. My French is severely limited, good enough to read simple French (about on the level of Le petit prince and Babar and simple instructions) but I can recognize French syntax when I see it. "I think to know" is a real giveaway.
