indeed, at least some ppl that lack A/C can buy a fan to refresh themselves up but these old ppl had to get creative not only during the day but during those long hot summer nights ouch!
You can watch old shows like The 3 Stooges and a truck would go around delivering big ass blocks of ice that they would put in a box in peoples windows and then they'd use a fan. Every put a sock full of ice in front of a small fan? It works.
