My gay af phone just did a forced OS update, and now I have to uninstall gigs of games it auto-installed.

Along with a bunch of other non-game apps I don't need or want. I also now have to go through the settings for every app and reset permissions and notifications to none/minimum. Best of all, my battery life has somehow just dropped by about 30-50%.

I member having a flip phone with a 3 day battery, and no apps. Those were good times, and they weren't even that long ago.

Edit: HBO Max is apparently now on my phone, and it won't let me uninstall it. 110 when?

A few years back, I took my old family household phone from the 90s, plugged it in, and proceded to record all of the saved answering machine messages. In that hour, I heard messages from family members that have been long gone for many years.

Emailed the recording to my siblings.

I've recorded business calls for well over 20 years so anyone who called my office, on business or otherwise got recorded. Shortly after my Dad passed I realized I had hours of our conversations recorded. It was a mixed blessing. I also sent them to my siblings but couldn't listen as it was too painful. I'd guess if I listened today it would be the same although it's been years since he's been gone.

I have the same for my mother but avoid listening for the same reasons. Perhaps some things we are not meant to dwell on for too long.

Kinda reminds me of some green txt i once saw - a guy fished out his old ps2 he had as a kid and on it was his dead Father's saved games including one of the early gran turismos which has the ghost car of the players fastest lap (his father) that challenges you each race until you beat it - so basically, he could race against his dead dad (as long as he made sure to never actually beat it over the finish line).

If you have android enable developer options and turn off install auto updates. Fugging update just destroyed root on my mobile so I had to re-root.

ADB will allow you to disable or install all that bloatware.

If android, look into LineageOS and whether your model is covered by the builds available.

You'll need an unlocked boot loader, that differs by manufacturer but usually their website automates it. Per-model docs at LineageOS should describe that, flashing a recovery image, booting into recovery and loading the OS.

Yeah the new update was a huge amount of storage. Probably downloaded a kill switch for planned obsolescence so we will all have to purchase new phones soon.
