Pretty much anything that can connect to a wireless network will be given a kill command when they feel like it.

Most idiots don't understand all it takes is one random little chip on their chinese boards to hold the execute script to brick the board. That's all it takes. Few lines of code stored on a chip that might be a pass through for something else and is undetectable unless you rip every chip off the board and dump it, that takes a very long time, each chip. It would take a public works project of grand scale.

I've seen some more sane discussion of this. SOCs these days have all sorts of things in them, and devices can even have the hardware to use them to simplify production and only be enabled on the more expensive models. Things also have comms links for diagnostic and firmware updates. The real threat is that so many devices have these potential backdoors, Chinese or not, or require a cloud connection. That's a recipe for unexpected failure.
